Success Story Triggers Surge in Applications

Published: Thursday 2 July 2015

Blackpool and The Fylde College has seen a surge in applications since its latest Open Day. This comes after the College was named England’s most successful college for all ages and all levels of qualifications.

With a 92.9% overall success rate, Blackpool and The Fylde College tops the table of the 218 general FE and tertiary colleges in England and is significantly ahead of the 83.6% national average. The Skills Funding Agency national success rate table ranks the number of students that a college has supported in achieving their qualifications last year.

Visitors to the Open Day were able to speak to students and tutors alike to get a feel for what the college could offer them. Throughout the day tours of all the different facilities, from formal teaching to more relaxed social learning spaces were on offer. Visitors were also able to try out different subject areas through a host of fun activities and interactive sessions. The popular event also explained how students attending the college would be able to make links with employers and get support to become job-ready, also how talented students can fast-track to their chosen career.

Engineering subjects have been particularly popular, with the College reporting a 100% increase in the number of young people taking up the subject over the last two years. The College is due to open its Advanced Technology Centre in September 2015, offering high level skills for the next generation of workers in the advanced engineering and manufacturing sectors.

School Liaison Manager Kristine Murray said:

“We’ve noticed a general increase in interest since B&FC was announced as England’s best performing College. A number of events such as our apprenticeship days, progression enrolment, UCAS Fairs and STEM events in high schools have been well-attended and we look forward to welcoming a new generation of students to the College.

"We have so much to offer school leavers right through to older learners, from fabulous facilities to exceptional staff – our results really do speak for themselves. Our advice to prospective students is don’t leave it too late to apply if you want to guarantee a place on your course.”
